Wicklow Joe
Joe, our tour guide for the day, took us around the Wicklow Mountains of Ireland.
Along the journey, Joe told us the Irish folklore of the Banshee, or the "woman of the barrows". As legend has it, she is an omen of death and makes an appearance around the time of death.
Joe also told us about the "Bog Bodies" that were found around 25 years ago and were nearly 2,500 years old. After further investigation the two bodies were young males with identical axe marks in the back of the skull. These were a few stories he told along the way...
Not only did he tell us historical facts about the mountains and different sites along the way, he also provided a great source of entertainment. In the video below you can see the Irish bogland, once used in place of wood as the only naturally available source of kindling.
